CACTUS LEAGUE

The Arizona Diamondbacks play their spring ball at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick. It is the beautiful spring training facility for the Colorado Rockies and the Arizona Diamondbacks and celebrated its 10th season in 2021. Prior to the 2011 season, the Diamondbacks played their first three years in Tucson, AZ at Kino Sports Complex.

Chicago Cubs

Train Cubs Train The Chicago Cubs moved their training home from Hohokam Park prior to the 2014 season when Sloan Park debuted as one of the crown jewels of the Cactus League. The World Series Champion Cubs have established Wrigley Field west and their fans are showing up in droves.

Chicago White Sox

Camelback Ranch is the largest spring training facility in the Cactus League, and is the second newest facility after the Chicago Cubs Sloan Park. The main stadium opened in 2009 and has a capacity of 13,000 (10,000 fixed seats and room for 3,000 on the outfield berms). It features 12 suites, a party deck and several outfield terraces for groups and parties.

Cincinnati Reds

Goodyear Ballpark is named not for the tire company, but its home of Goodyear, Arizona, which is named for tire company (which bought the land in the early 20th century as area for cotton cultivation to provide the material for tire threads). No longer a corporation’s raw materials plantation, the city has become a thriving western suburb of Phoenix, as well as the Cactus League Spring Training home for the Cleveland Indians and Cincinnati Reds.

Cleveland Guardians

Goodyear Ballpark, opened in 2009, is the spring training home for major league baseball’s Cleveland Indians and the Cincinnati Reds. It is also home to the Indians’ and Reds’ Arizona Rookie League ball teams.

Colorado Rockies

The Colorado Rockies play their spring ball at the beautiful Salt River Fields at Talking Stick. It is shared with the Arizona Diamondbacks and celebrated its 10th season in 2021. The Rockies first spring training home was at Hi-Corbett Field in Tucson, AZ from 1993 – 2011.

Kansas City Royals

After the MLB Kansas City Athletics moved west to Oakland CA in 1968, the Kansas City Royals began play in Missouri in 1969. That team’s first spring training home was Terry Park Field in Ft Myers FL; the Royals played there till 1987. After that, they moved north to the now defunct Baseball City Stadium, part of the financially disastrous Boardwalk and Baseball theme park in Haines City FL.

Los Angeles Angels

Los Angeles Dodgers

This year (2018) the Los Angeles Dodgers celebrate their 10th anniversary at Camelback Ranch, their Spring Training facility in Glendale, Arizona. The Dodgers made their move from their fabled digs at Dodgertown in Vero Beach, Florida to be much closer to their West Coast fan base. Camelback Ranch is the largest spring training facility in the Cactus League, and is the second newest facility after the Chicago Cubs Sloan Park.

Milwaukee Brewers

American Family Fields of Phoenix, previously known as Maryvale Stadium, is the spring training home of Major League Baseball’s Milwaukee Brewers. Originally built in 1998, it received an extensive renovation, which was completed in Feb, 2019 in time for that season’s spring training games. The renovations brought the facility up to par with the many new super-modern stadiums being built in the Phoenix, AZ area the last ten+ years.

Oakland Athletics

The Oakland Athletics played their very first spring training games (as Oakland) in Bradenton FL before the 1968 season. Since then, they’ve been in Arizona and the Cactus League. Rendezvous Park was their first spring training home from 1969 to 1976. Then they moved to the brand-new Hohokam Park in Mesa, just a mile and a half north, for the 1977 and 1978 seasons. Next, they moved to Scottsdale Stadium for four years.

San Diego Padres

The San Diego Padres have been holding Spring Training at Peoria Sports Complex for over 20 years now. They have shared the facility with the Seattle Mariners every February and March since the complex was built in 1994. It was the very first complex to be shared by two Major League teams. That is now the norm in the cactus league, with only a few clubs having their own facilities. Both the Padres and Mariners are leased to stay in Peoria through 2034.

San Francisco Giants

The San Francisco Giants have held spring training in the latest iteration of Scottsdale Stadium each year since 1992. They currently have a lease to play in the stadium through 2025, with an option to extend that to 2035.

Seattle Mariners

The Seattle Mariners have always held their spring training in Arizona. First at Tempe Diablo Stadium from 1977 – 1993, then moved to the Peoria Sports Complex when it opened in 1994. The complex is the first MLB spring training facility shared by two teams, the norm today. The San Diego Padres also use the complex for their spring training facility.

Texas Rangers

Surprise Stadium has been the Spring Training home of the Texas Rangers and Kansas City Royals since 2003. In the summer, the Rookie League level AZL Rangers play in Surprise, and in the fall, the Arizona Fall League’s Surprise Saguaros call the facility home. Surprise Stadium has a baseball capacity of 10,714. It also hosts several other events during the year, including college baseball tournaments in the weeks leading up to Spring Training.

GRAPEFRUIT LEAGUE

Atlanta Braves

Twenty twenty-one (2021) marks the first full Spring Training season for the Atlanta Braves in their new home at CoolToday Park. The team played the last game of the 2019 Spring Training season at the park and COVID-19 shut down the 2020 season before games even started. CoolToday Park was funded through contributions from Sarasota County, the state of Florida, the City of North Port, and the planned community of The West Villages.

Baltimore Orioles

Ed Smith Stadium opened in 1989 and has served as the spring training home for the Chicago White Sox and the Cincinnati Reds. It was a basic ballpark that had begun to age. In 2010, that all changed when the Baltimore Orioles arrived in Sarasota. Before the team played its first game in the stadium, a more than $31 million renovation was underway to make the ugly duckling into the well-feathered nest of the Baltimore Orioles.

Boston Red Sox

Fenway Park. The name alone conjures up images of history, nostalgia, and mixed feelings of both euphoria and pain — and that’s just for Red Sox fans.

Detroit Tigers

With a stadium as beautiful as that found at Tigertown in Lakeland, Florida, it is easy to see why the Detroit Tigers are one of the most enjoyable spring training destinations in the state. A comfortable atmosphere with plenty of seating options and ways to enjoy the day, fans are in for a treat when watching the Tigers take the field.

Houston Astros

The Houston Astros moved into the FITTEAM Ballpark of the Palm Beaches in 2017. They share the stadium and the training complex with the Washington Nationals. The ballpark was built by the city of West Palm Beach in order to attract a major league team (or two) back for the first time since the Atlanta Braves left for a new stadium in the Disney complex.

Miami Marlins

Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium has the distinction of hosting two minor league teams during the season. So it shouldn’t be too surprising to learn that it also welcomes two major league teams during spring training: the Miami Marlins and the St. Louis Cardinals. Of course, the two clubs have their own practice fields, batting cages, pitching mounds, and other training areas, but they both play their preseason games on the Roger Dean diamond.

Minnesota Twins

Since opening its doors in 1991, Hammond Stadium has been the Grapefruit League home for the Minnesota Twins, as well as the Gulf Coast A Fort Myers Miracle. The park, with its Churchill Downs-inspired main facade, lies within the CenturyLink Sports Complex that houses the Spring Training facilities for all the Twins affiliates on its sprawling grounds. Hammond Stadium went through two major renovations in 2014 and 2015 that expanded the seating capacity to 9,300.

New York Mets

Over the last 30 years, the Mets have called Port St. Lucie their home for Spring Training. A stadium was built to host their spring training games with the original name of Thomas J White Stadium, in recognition of the developer that lured the team to the town. Over the years the stadium changed names, including Tradition Field in 2004, then First Data Field in 2014. Over the last 30 years, the Mets have called Port St. Lucie their home for Spring Training.

New York Yankees

The city of Tampa was the first to hold spring training games in Florida when the Chicago Cubs moved into Plant Field in 1913. Over the next 64 years, various clubs used Plant Field and then Al Lang Field as their spring training ground, while surrounding communities such as St. Petersburg, Clearwater, and Dunedin joined in the act. After 1987 though, the Cincinnati Reds moved from Tampa, leaving the city without a spring training tenant.

Philadelphia Phillies

The fans at Clearwater’s Spectrum Field are among the most impressive in Spring Training. Immediately, it feels as if all of Philadelphia have flocked to Florida to watch their team play. With a bright young core of players and some solid veterans, the Phillies are set for another great year, which has the fans in Florida excited as ever for the future.

Pittsburgh Pirates

In every sport there is a stadium that seems frozen in time, giving the fans the opportunity to experience baseball as it used to be in a period setting. LECOM Park in Bradenton is that park in the Grapefruit League. It is the oldest park still in use in both the Grapefruit and Cactus Leagues.

St. Louis Cardinals

Although it may seem as if Roger Dean Stadium is named for a local luminary, in reality, the 6,871-seat stadium is named for a less-lofty local car sales magnate, making it one of two parks in the Grapefruit League related to car sales (the other being Florida Auto Exchange Stadium in Dunedin). But the park is unique in that it (currently) is the only Grapefruit League park hosting two teams: the Miami Marlins and the St. Louis Cardinals.

Tampa Bay Rays

Port Charlotte, Florida began hosting Grapefruit League baseball in 1987 with the construction of the Charlotte Sports Park. The Texas Rangers held their spring warm-ups here from 1987 until the mass exodus to the Arizona Cactus League in 2002. After a period in the reeds hosting independent league ball and college tournaments, the Sports Park found new tenants in 2009 with the nearby Tampa Bay Rays, who had ideas for sweeping changes.

Toronto Blue Jays

After more than 30 years, the Toronto Blue Jays have settled into a newly refurbished nest for their spring training home. TD Ballpark is the new name for the home field beginning in 2021. The stadium now holds 8,500 fans and provides a wide variety of enhancements to improve the fan experience. The entire tab for the redesign cost more than $102 million.

Washington Nationals

The Washington Nationals moved into the FITTEAM Ballpark of the Palm Beaches in 2017. They formerly played in the Space Coast Stadium in Viera, Florida, a stadium they had inherited from their former time as the Montreal Expos.
