TheStadiumBusiness 2018 Awards Announced
A total of 10 awards were handed out this year, with several countries represented at the podium. The United States of America was well represented, earning four awards, while three went to the United Kingdom and France, Germany and Australia each earned one award. No stadium received more than one award this year.
The Venue of the Year Award for 2018 went to Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, GA. The Judging Panel noted that this venue, “has simply highlighted that if stadium operators provide fans with the right environment, they will continue to return and support their teams.”
The Product Innovation Award was given to the Tunnel Club at Etihad Stadium, home of Manchester City FC. Per the Man City website, the Tunnel Club gives fans behind-the-scenes access that most stadiums don’t have, including a view of the player’s tunnel leading out to the pitch, seating behind the dugout for a ground-level view of the game, views of post-game interviews, and a premium quality dining experience.
The Venue Technology Award went to the Venue Operations Centre for Sydney Cricket & Sports Ground Trust. The use of high-tech solutions to security challenges at this classic venue gave the Sydney Cricket Ground the edge in the competition.
TheStadiumBusiness Awards began operations in 2010 in order to recognize achievement, innovation, fresh thinking and the leaders in the world of stadium, arena and sports venue management, to raise industry standards and encourage greater professionalism, and to drive awareness of the stadium, arena and sports venue sector.
