Field of Dreams Site Vandalized
One of the most iconic movie sites of any genre was damaged overnight on Monday.
Workers at the Field of Dreams movie site in Dyersville, Iowa discovered the damage on Tuesday morning.
Someone drove a vehicle through the field, causing the damage. What remained afterwards was damage to the field along with damage to the sprinkler system.
Al Steffen, the site’s field manager, told the (Dubuque) Telegraph Herald, “There are gashes up to four inches deep in the outfield,” Steffen said. “Whoever did it was really able to dig in.”
Steffen also mentioned that this wasn’t the first time someone had driven on the field, but a weather break in the Iowa winter allowed for higher temperatures that brought rain and loosening of the soil, which allowed for more damage to be done.
There are no security cameras at the site to assist in finding out who caused the damage.
Steffen isn’t sure how long the repairs will take. “We need to wait until the spring to figure out how much we’re going to need to tear up,” Steffen said.
The field will remain open even with the damage.
A Go Fund Me page has been set up to try and raise the estimated $15,000 in damages. As of Wednesday evening, just over $4,300 has been donated.
