El partido del siglo
The Copa Libertadores is the most important football tournament in South America. It’s organized by the Conmebol and gives the right to play in the FIFA Club World Cup.
El partido del siglo (in English: the match of the century) will be played at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium in Madrid, Spain. The second round of the Copa Libertadores final will be staged on December 9, 2018.
The two Argentine clubs (Boca Juniors and River Plate) are twinned with Genoa and Sampdoria. Both clubs were founded in the early twentieth century by Italian emigrants from the Ligurian city.
The municipality of Genoa, Italy, had also given its readiness to host the game at the Luigi Ferraris stadium.
The first match of the Copa Libertadores was played November 11, 2018 at La Bombonera Stadium, Boca Juniors vs. River Plate and ended with a 2-2 result. The second match, River Plate vs. Boca Juniors, scheduled for November 24, 2018, was postponed after the attacks outside the monumental facility.
Curiously, the next Champions League final, the most important tournament for clubs of the Old Continent, will be played in the capital of Spain. The match will be held on June 1, 2019, at the Wanda Metropolitano, the Atlético Madrid facility from the 2017/2018 football season.
