DC United to Open Audi Field on July 14 Leading Into MLB All-Star Week
Audi Field, the new 20,000-seat soccer venue that will be home to DC United, is currently under construction in Southwest DC, two blocks from Nationals Park. This new facility will end United’s wait of more than a decade to replace the decaying RFK Stadium, which has hosted DC United since 1996. It was announced earlier that United will open Audi Field on July 14th, just three days before this once forgotten part of the city will host the Major League Baseball All-Star Game at Nationals Park.
The opponent for the opening game at the new Audi Field will be Vancouver Whitecaps FC , and the match will kickoff at 7pm.
This announcement provides the opportunity for a great sports weekend in DC leading up to All-Star week. Fans can come into town Saturday of the opening of Audi Field, then stay for the Home Run Derby on Monday night and the All-Star game on Tuesday night – an all-around win for Washington DC sports fans.
