Construction Proceeding on Cavalry FC Stadium
The Canadian Premier League is making plans to start play in the spring of 2019, with seven teams across the country lined up to compete in the newest pro soccer league to form in Canada. The Calgary franchise, Cavalry FC, will be playing their home games at Spruce Meadows, the world-renowned show jumping park in the city’s south-west. And, as per CTV News, work is well underway to provide a top-notch soccer pitch for the new team.
A 4,000-seat covered grandstand will be constructed alongside the natural grass playing field, with another 1,000 seats behind one goal line and a further 1,000 seats around the rest of the facility. Seats will all have backs to provide the fans with a comfortable view and the plaza next to the stadium will have plenty of concession options.
The field itself was already planted in the fall and will be ready for play when the season begins.
According to CTV News, more than 1,000 fans have already signed up to be club members, so ticket sales are expected to be brisk for the inaugural year of play.
Of course one of the most unique features of the new venue is its location, situated on the Spruce Meadows grounds. Opened in 1975, Spruce Meadows plays host to several world-class show jumping competitions every year, with the finest horses and riders from around the globe coming to compete. According to the Spruce Meadows website, more than $6 million in prize money will be handed out in 2019 alone.
