Cross Insurance Arena – Maine Mariners

It was quite shocking to many fans when the Pirates were sold in 2016 and moved to Springfield, Massachusetts. After a break from hockey, Portland fans were rewarded for their patience with the arrival of the Mariners. Local fans have been slow to warm to the new team in a lower level, but the city of Portland remains an excellent destination for hockey fans, and the Cross Insurance Arena is an excellent addition to the ECHL circuit.

North Charleston Coliseum – South Carolina Stingrays

The North Charleston Coliseum is a 13,000 seat multi-purpose arena located in the northwestern suburbs of Charleston, SC . The facility seats 10,537 in its hockey configuration. It opened in 1993 as a part of a municipal complex that also includes a performing arts center and a convention center. The coliseum is the home of the South Carolina Stingrays of the ECHL and hosts several Charleston Southern basketball games that would not fit in the Buccaneers on – campus gym.

SNHU Arena – Manchester Monarchs

It’s sad to see how far support for the Monarchs has eroded in this excellent hockey market. After years of declining attendance and interest, the team is being sold for the second time in three years. The outgoing owners have stated a desire to find local ownership that will keep the team in New Hampshire, but it may be too little too late. At this point, the only thing that may be able to save the team would be an affiliation with the nearby Boston Bruins.
