Jackson Field is a part of the UNC Jackson Field Sports Complex which also contains the women’s soccer field – Jackson Stadium. The field is named after Charles N. Jackson, a UNC trustee who helped purchase the land in 1927. It has been the site for Bears baseball since the late 1920s.
The expansion High Point Rockers (independent; Atlantic League) are eager to show off their new digs to central North Carolina, having hosted a “Light the Point” street party at BB&T Point last week.
The home of the Midshipmen is Terwilliger Brothers Field at Max Bishop Stadium, the latter named for coach Max Bishop who coached the team from 1937 to 1961. Bishop even played for the Philadelphia Athletics in the late 1920s and early 1930s, winning two World Series. Bishop Stadium officially opened in 1962 as the home of the Midshipmen.
The team has an unusual home schedule, as it splits its games between the on-campus Young Memorial Field and Regions Field, the downtown home of the Class AA Birmingham Barons. The February and March games take place at Regions Field, with UAB returning to their on-campus stadium once the minor league season gets underway.
