The most recent version of the Valero Alamo Bowl marked the 26th edition of the game in its current run. Annually featuring the best teams from the Pac-12 and Big XII that aren’t part of the New Year’s six, the contest saw the Washington State Cougars upend the Iowa State Cyclones.
In 1973, the squad formerly known as the ABA’s Dallas Chaparrals moved 286 miles south to the Alamo City and became the San Antonio Spurs. In the 40-plus years since then, the Spurs have moved their home court three times, cultivated a rabid, die-hard fan base, and rewarded said fans with five NBA Championships.

History and heritage have deep roots in the city of Kingsville, Texas. A tradition of farming and ranching built the community. It continues to grow thanks in large part to Texas A&M University-Kingsville (TAMUK). Founded in 1925, the athletics department launched a football program shortly afterward in 1929. Since that time, the Javelinas have become one of the most dominant Division II programs in the country.
Playing in the Southern Athletic Association, the Trinity University Tigers have developed into one of college football’s most successful Division III programs in the country. In 2007 they gained national prominence for a play against Millsaps College that became known as the Mississippi Miracle. They were also runners up for the DIII National Championship in 2002, and have consistently fielded a playoff contending team.
